FAMADA
Family Members Affected by Domestic Abuse

Family members affected by
domestic abuse (FAMADA) is a
service that supports family
members (and close friends) of
victims and survivors of
domestic abuse.

As a family member, we are here for you.

At FAMADA, we provide one-to-one emotional support for family members to talk through their concerns, look after themselves and understand domestic abuse.

What we do
FAMADA supports family members of victims and survivors of domestic abuse. When your loved one is in an abusive relationship, it is often hard to know what to do.

We recognise that family members are a crucial lifeline to a victim’s or survivor’s wellbeing and can support them to recognise the abuse, leave the relationship and move on with their lives.

We hope the information on this website can help you to understand domestic abuse and support yourself and your loved one.

We support family members through one-to-one sessions online. These sessions are free of charge.

FAMADA is a remote service and provides one-to-one sessions via zoom. We are a UK wide service. Although some funding may be regional or area specific, the main service can be accessed by anyone in the UK. We do this to prevent a postcode barrier to accessing support.

Why is supporting family members important?
As family members, you are a lifeline to your loved one. Isolation traps victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Staying in a person’s life is extremely important to them and can be the key to them leaving the relationship and prevent them from returning. Many survivors don’t seek professional help, therefore they often rely on family members to provide them with the emotional and practical support they need.

However, supporting and worrying about your loved one can be very difficult and can have a huge impact on your mental health, family life and general wellbeing. That is why it is so important to have some support to look after yourself. It can be difficult to understand what is happening and how to support a loved one. Building a greater understanding and awareness about domestic abuse can help you and your loved one. At FAMADA, we want to support you through this time.
